Professor Dr. Ahmet Erhan Aksoylu conducts research focused on carbon emission-free technologies for fuel and energy production, feasibility analysis of these technologies under uncertainty, climate change, the cyclical relationship between “energy–global warming–sustainability,” and technology and regulation roadmaps that ensure sustainability; he also gives seminars on these topics, which he designs and presents in a clear and understandable way without oversimplifying, containing knowledge and honest commentary.

Biography

He is one of the first graduates of Istanbul Atatürk Science High School, IAFL ’85. He completed his undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Chemical Engineering at Boğaziçi University. His doctoral advisor was Prof. Zeynep İlsen Önsan, and his major boss was Prof. David L. Trimm. He briefly worked as an expert at TÜBİTAK-MAM, and then conducted his first post-doctoral research at the University of Porto (Prof. Jose L. Figueiredo) and his second at Texas A&M University (Prof. Wayne L. Goodman).

In February 2000, he started as a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Boğaziçi University, became a professor in 2006, and still works in the same department. In 2001, he established the central laboratory of the University, the Advanced Technologies R&D Central Laboratory, and has served as its director till Aug. 2025. He served as the department chair for seven years and was a member of the university senate for six years.

He established the Fuel and Energy Technologies MSc program for employees and managed it for ten years. Although the program had a low number of students due to its difficulty, he did not decrease its intensity but instead closed the program entirely. Time proved him right as the program graduates quickly climbed to high-level positions.

He received the TÜBA Young Scientist and TÜBİTAK Incentive awards.

He led the establishment of the Synthetic Natural Gas and Hydrogen Production Technologies Laboratory (SNG&HydTec Lab), a state-of-the-art research and technology development facility with a total investment of 13 million USD, as the principal investigator (co-PI: Dr. Burcu Selen Çağlayan).

He has managed and is currently managing major research projects, and has provided and still provides consultancy to advanced technology companies.

He has published numerous research articles in SCI journals and presented at many international conferences. As of Aug. 2025, his WoS h-index is 27.
