Professor Fatih Ozatay, former Vice Governor of the Central Bank of Turkey, is an expert on the Turkish economy, monetary policy and macroeconomic modeling.
Professor Fatih Ozatay, former Vice Governor of the Central Bank of Turkey, is an expert on the Turkish economy, monetary policy and macroeconomic modeling.
Professor Ozatay received his Ph.D degree in Economics from Ankara University. He directed the Research Department of the Central Bank of Turkey until 1995 when he joined Ankara University, Department of Economics. He also gave lectures at several universities. In the mean time, he worked as a consultant at the Turkish Treasury.
In 2001, he was appointed as Vice Governor of the Central Bank. As the Vice Governor and a member of the Monetary Policy Committee, he shared responsibility for the formulation of monetary policy. In this period, when inflation fell from 72 percent to around 6 percent, he took significant responsibilities in the design and implementation of first implicit and then explicit inflation targeting regimes, which were put into effect for the first time in Turkey.
In April 2006, Professor Ozatay was affiliated with TOBB University of Economics and Technology as the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
He is currently a faculty member of the same university and a consultant to the Economic Policy Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV).
His research has been published in academic journals such as the Journal of International Money and Finance and Economic Modeling. Professor Ozatay has been writing columns in several newspapers and Yetkin Report.
