He has received prestigious national and international science prizes and awards for his scientific excellence (e.g., Ph.D. studentship – Turkish Ministry of Higher Education; Cambridge Philosophical Society (Cantab) research studentship; Science Incentive Award of Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK); Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Foundation Research Fellowship; Outstanding Young Scientist Award of Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA-GEBIP) and Elsevier Outstanding Reviewer Award among many others). His research interests span a wide range of topics from earthquake source studies and tsunami simulations to crustal and lithospheric structures, anisotropic seismology, and 3D multi-scale full-waveform tomography using super-computers and state-of-art seismographic observations on land and marine environments.
Professor Taymaz has co-edited and co-published special publications books and special issues at prestigious distinguished earth-science societies and ISI WOS journals (e.g., Elsevier, Springer, The Geological Society of London, U.K., Dahlem Konferenzen Series – Freie Universität Berlin, the MIT Press, Tectonophysics and Asian Earth Sciences). He is in close cooperation with Springer, and presently oversees as one of Book Series Editor for Springer Publications (Japan), Advances in Geological Science.
He has organized many prestigious workshops, symposium, tutorial seminars, and recently The Humboldt Kolleg-2016 Advances in Earthquake Seismology and Geodynamic Modelling supported by The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany. Professor Taymaz has been invited to many international collaborative projects as CO-PI and expert scientist.
